Monday night...

Tonight the hubs is volunteering at the Mennonite Relief Service so I've had some crafting time.

Sorry if the pictures in the last post are funny sizes, I can't seem to upload them in the right size, hopefully today works better!

Last night we baked together. We're in the mode of using things that we have in the house, which included NO BUTTER! So we started with a thick homemade chocolate cake which called for shortening. I always have Crisco for making an easy to store and use buttercream icing. But I don't have a picture of it. I just stuck a can of frosting on it and it wasn't worthy of a photo.

Second was chocolate earthquake cookies. J loved these! They are more of a cakey cookie and prior to baking you roll it in confectioners sugar. As the cookie puffs during baking the edges look cracked.

Sewing wise
Here is my first bag!
It was supposed to turn itself inside out and store, but I need a lot of fine tuning on it. It took me about 17 tries. I sewed one inside out, my seams were crooked, I accidentaly sewed the handle into the pouch, I put them on in the wrong direction, it was very frustrating. This is when I gave up.

I'm currently working on a quilt for my mom for Christmas (I like to get things done early).
I used some of my granddad's handkerchiefs (not sure if that's spelled right) and made a quilt top. He passed away in 2002 and with my grandmum recently passing I figured my mom could use it. This is my first attempt at machine quilting. I guess I would consider it stippling?? but I just kinda go where the fabric goes. It's not pretty yet, but it will be good practice. However I'm regretting making it so close together. It's going to take a lot of thread and a lot of time.
